Dear Faculty of Arts,<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Classes concluded\u00a0this week\u00a0with a winter wonderland\u00a0transforming\u00a0Surrey campus.\u00a0On Monday\u00a0morning outside the Arbutus building, a\u00a0solitary\u00a0Anna\u2019s hummingbird\u00a0perched\u00a0on a tree\u00a0looking a\u00a0tad\u00a0bewildered by the snowfall\u00a0—\u00a0reflecting our own amazement at how\u00a0rapidly\u00a0the fall term moved into\u00a0December.\u00a0Wasn\u2019t Halloween just last week?<\/em>\u00a0 The days are\u00a0short in daylight\u00a0hours,\u00a0and there is much\u00a0grading\u00a0to be done\u00a0as we shift\u00a0into the final exam\u00a0period. Thank you for\u00a0your\u00a0perseverance,\u00a0and most especially for your\u00a0support\u00a0of, and compassion for,\u00a0one\u00a0another and\u00a0KPU\u00a0students as we\u2019ve weathered through\u00a0this\u00a0sixth semester\u00a0of\u00a0the pandemic\u00a0and the recent\u00a0crisis\u00a0of the\u00a0B.C.\u00a0floods.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIME-SENSTIVE ITEMS<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marking up a Storm: <\/strong>Please remember that all final grades must be submitted by December 20th<\/sup> (11:59 PM).  For grades that will be submitted after the grading deadline of Dec. 20th<\/sup>, you must enter an \u201cI\u201d grade and follow up by submitting a signed Incomplete Grade Contract (IGC). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reporting Academic Integrity Violations:<\/strong> During this busy time when marking is top of mind, we\u2019d like to re-share this resource on Academic Integrity: AIV one-pager – August 2021.pdf (sharepoint.com)<\/a>  As per its instructions, if you need to input final grades (to meet the grading deadline) before a recently reported case has been adjudicated, we recommend submitting an Incomplete Grade (\u2018I\u2019) (without the student\u2019s signature on the I contract, if necessary); once the case is adjudicated, the final grade can be added via a Grade Reporting Form.  Please contact your associate dean if you think you may need to use this process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Respectful Workplace Training: <\/strong>Earlier this year, KPU launched an updated version of the online Respect in the Workplace training program. This is reminder that if you have not already done so, please complete the required online Respect in the Workplace program by December 31, 2021. EVENTS AND INITIATIVES<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty of Arts EDI Awards: <\/strong>Today is the International Day of Human Rights, which coincides with the opening for the nomination period for the Faculty of Arts EDI Awards. The Faculty of Arts, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) awards recognize faculty, students, staff, and alumni who have demonstrated excellence in supporting and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion from an intersectional social justice lens within the Faculty of Arts and\/or the broader community. These awards honour individuals or groups\/teams within the Faculty of Arts whose actions serve to advance KPU\u2019s commitment to EDI. The nomination period runs from December 10, 2021, to January 31, 2022.  For more information on nominating an individual or self-nominating your group\/team, follow this link<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating Diversity: <\/strong>Associate Dean pro tem Billeh Nickerson has been working with the Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) to create four new financial awards that celebrate diverse communities within the Faculty of Arts. The KSA has made a preliminary commitment of $28,000 (to be confirmed at their upcoming December board meeting) with the understanding that these funds will eventually be combined with FofA donations and payroll deductions to create the following awards: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. International Students<\/strong> in the Faculty of Arts <\/li>
  2. Students with Disabilities<\/strong> in the Faculty of Arts <\/li>
  3. BIPOC Students<\/strong> in the Faculty of Arts <\/li>
  4. 2SLGBTQ+ Students<\/strong> in the Faculty of Arts <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The challenge is for staff and faculty within the Faculty Arts (and across KPU) to contribute an additional $28,000, which will then be matched by the KPU Foundation. This may be achieved over several years. The combined totals would lead to four separate annual $1,000 awards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Folks interested in donating may do so via the Foundation page<\/a> under \u201cKSA\/Faculty of Arts Diversity Award.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Or via payroll deduction as part of the family campaign<\/a>. Please type \u201cKSA\/Faculty of Arts Diversity Award\u201d onto the form.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    External donations from folks outside KPU will be appreciated though not eligible for Foundation matching funds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
