We wanted to emphasize that while students are required to request an AEG designation by April 9th, they must complete all the course requirements, including final assessments to be eligible. As you would expect, many students will want to know what their standing is in the course before deciding if they wish to ask for an AEG designation. Of course, students are expected to keep their own tally of their pre-final standing, but in some cases, you may find students making requests for grading information.

Myth Busting: With so much flux and systems change, we have been seeing some myths and misconceptions circulating among students. We want to nip these in the bud and to help you do so as well. The most common myth of late is that the waitlisting process has changed, and that individual instructors are now responsible for granting waitlisted students the ability to register. Rest assured, our waitlisting process has not changed. If you are aware of other viral myths, please let us know.

Enrollment: Arts courses are in pretty good shape in terms of seat-fill rates. Arts courses are almost all full, with a 96% seat-fill rate and 79% of classes full. It’s not entirely clear whether these levels will hold, but it does seem that there is still reasonably strong demand despite the broader social context and our transition to online delivery.

Email Traffic: Some concerns have been expressed about email inundation, chiefly regarding the faculty distribution list. Options are being weighed to address this problem. We hope you feel that the ARTS distribution list is currently being employed responsibly and effectively. Rest assured that we are carefully constructing our messages to maximize their usefulness and minimize volume.

Finally, we wanted to share two suggested some resources for resilience and self-care that have recently been sent along by faculty and staff:

This free online course supports mental health and is available through Coursera. It was designed by a University of Toronto professor who wanted to provide resources during the COVID crisis.
