The cabin Environment Control System (ECS) controls and monitors air quality, temperature and pressure. Airflow is constantly moving and flows from top-to-bottom at one meter per second, meaning there is no spread from adjacent seat rows to one another. Air is constantly entering and exiting the cabin, the ‘used’ air is circulated out of the cabin and replaced with outdoor air via pressurization outflow valves. Air renewal or exchange on Airbus is completed every 2-3 minutes, whereas in hospital rooms, classrooms and offices air is exchanged every 10-20 minutes. The high cruising altitudes means the air is naturally free from pathogens. Air that is recirculated is passed through HEPA filters, which are effective in capturing microscopic airborne particles, like bacteria and viruses, and eliminate 99.9 percent of particles from recirculated air. The cabins have a mix of fresh and filtered recirculated air that is clean and virus-free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
