Centered Zipper

Intro to centred zippers – why to use this type of zipper.

Baste along the length of the zipper opening, and shift to a regular stitch length (2.5) for the seam

Fuse on wrong side of fabric along zipper opening. Serge raw edge of seam allowance fabric. Sew seam (2cm seam allowance) to notch (bottom of zipper), back stitch and machine baste remainder of seam. Press seam open.

Stitch the zipper tape to the seam allowance to hole the zipper in place

Place closed zipper face down on seam allowance, ensure that zipper coils are centered along seam. Machine baste zipper tape to one side of seam allowance.

Top stitch around the out side of the zipper

Using a zipper foot, on right size of fabric stitch around zipper. Starting at the top left use the zipper foot along the zipper coils to guide you, stitch to the bottom of zipper, across the bottom, and up the other side of the zipper to the top. Ensure stitching lines are equal widths from seam.

Press and remove basing thread. Check that zipper is functional.
