In this episode, we are going to be interviewing Mike Molloy all the way from Ottawa. Though Molloy played a very critical role in the Ugandan Expulsion, today, we are going to focus on his very strategic role in the Indochinese refugee program of 1979-80, whereby 60,000 refugees were brought to Canada. Saved by the storm last night in Ottawa, Mike is ready to share some details on this very important refugee movement for Canada. He will also touch on the Uganda operation and how it influenced the refugee provisions of the 1976 Immigration Act that was shaped and also facilitated this massive Indochinese refugee crisis. We are going to draw comparisons between the Ugandan & Indochinese refugees and settlement here in Canada. This interview comes at a very fitting time as we celebrate the Asian Heritage Month in May. I am delighted to have Mike in our Vancouver studio today! He will also share insights into his co-authored publication of “Running on Empty: Canada and the Indochinese Refugees 1975-1980”.
