Today, we have Daxa Popat joining us in our studio from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her family will be celebrating 50 years of resettlement in Halifax this week on Nov 5. Just like the other Ugandan Asians, Daxa and her family left in 1972 to first settle in Bridgewater, NS and then in the capital, Halifax, where her entire family is happily united & settled. She talks about her Dad’s dream of starting an Indian/Canadian grocery store after his 17 years of employment with Michelin. Daxa expressed her gratitude to the PM Trudeau (Senior & Junior) and Canada for accepting them with open arms. Asked if she would like to move to another city in Canada, she quickly responded by a NO. Her family has grounded their roots in Nova Scotia and see no reason or desire to move to another city across Canada. If in Nova Scotia, check their family Indian restaurant called “Curry Express” in Bridgewater.
