She has been recognized by her extraordinary commitment to teaching both in her paid and voluntary assignments. She was one of the pioneers during Covid to instruct seniors 65 years and over to zoom technology! She has been honored with her contributions to the Ismaili Muslim Community.

Originally hailing from the warm shores of Mombasa, Kenya, Yasmin’s research interests are in the areas of refugees, settlement and re-settlement, education, employment, equity, diversity and inclusion of these refugees in their ‘new’ homes. She is particularly interested in the untold stories of the Ugandan Asians who were forced to migrate to Canada, US, UK, Australia, India etc. during the 1972 expulsion by the late President, Idi Amin. Yasmin collaborated with Carleton University Archives in their Uganda refugee oral history collection.

When Yasmin is not working, she is attending & cuddling up to her two adorable grand dogs! She loves to hike along the LaFarge Lake and Rocky Point Park. She is a nature lover and appreciates the beauty around Vancouver, the beautiful mountains and waterways. She loves to travel and especially enjoys cruises.
