The Upcycled Design Competition!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Wilson School of Design has partnered with Our Social Fabric to host this year\u2019s Design Competition with the theme, \u201cAwareness\u201d. Eligible participants created a 3-dimensional design using recycled textiles and found objects. The goal was to transform fabric\/material waste into an upcycled design that conveyed a message of awareness on a topic that is meaningful and current. Concepts may included but were not limited to: garments, soft products, art pieces, interior design products, creative packaging, or zero\/minimal waste designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Our Social Fabric Store Tour (25 Nov 2021)\" width=\"616\" height=\"347\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cT_zY2x5c_U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our Social Fabric is a textile recycling initiative that has been operating since 2009. OSF receives donations of textiles, fabric and any sewing-related supplies from the local film, theatre, manufacturing or estate closure industries. Their team sorts through donations and offers them back to the community at a drastically discounted price. OSF has two main purposes: the first to reclaim, recycle and extend the life-cycle of surplus textiles and textile-related materials destined for destruction or landfill. The second goal is to build community awareness of best practices for textile waste reduction towards zero waste and a circular economy. The goal is to create awareness of Our Social Fabric\u2019s efforts and inspire the many talented, emerging designers at the Wilson School of Design. Along with the final product, students were required to submit a video that outlined their design process, representation of the theme \u201cawareness\u201d, and other detailed relevant information. The submitted projects were evaluated on the innovative use of reclaimed materials (sourced from OSF with a maximum budget of $40), representation of \u201cawareness\u201d, creativity, quality and workmanship. I wish to utilize this opportunity to share the ways toxic masculinity can inflict harm to society. Josh explains that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-accent-background-color has-accent-color is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-text-align-center has-large-font-size\"><blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThe decision to use broken skateboards to craft the bracket system was two-fold. Skateboard waste is a large issue in that as soon as it has a crack, too many chips, or simply feels worn out, it gets thrown away. Many skateboarders can go through multiple boards per month.
