The curriculum of our flexible, part-time program was developed in collaboration with companies like Arc\u2019teryx, Global Collective, lululemon, Mountain Equipment Co-Op, Mustang Survival and Sugoi. Our students gain the research, design, business and leadership skills needed to join the next generation of design innovators striving to let humans move faster, survive longer, and explore further. In case you missed it, check out how these connections brought our grads\u2019 visions to life in their capstone projects in our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpu.ca\/design\/blog\/2020\/12\/01\/apparel-purpose-innovative-tech-apparel-capstone-projects-part-13\">Apparel with Purpose series<\/a>. These industry members generously offer their guidance and expertise in bringing projects from idea to production of high-quality prototypes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpu.ca\/design\/technicalapparel\/industry\">advisory committee<\/a>&nbsp;for the program is very involved. This committee includes representatives from Arc&#8217;teryx, Mustang Survival, MEC, and more. Stratus is a technical mid-layer capable of varying its insulation value tailored to the thermal needs of the user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2019, Philip Siwek won bronze at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpu.ca\/news\/2019\/09\/03\/tech-design-grad-wins-international-design-conference\">International Design Conference<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/designawards.core77.com\/Strategy-Research\/82264\/AV-Cycling-Jacket\">Core77 Student Strategy &amp; Research Award<\/a>&nbsp;for his capstone project, AV Cycling Jacket, a jacket designed to be more detectable to the sensors of Autonomous Vehicles and Artificial Intelligence. Philip also won.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2018, Shawn Michaels\u2019 supervisor received a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worksafebc.com\/en\/resources\/newsletters\/worksafe-magazine\/worksafe-magazine-marapr-2019\/work-science?lang=en&amp;direct\">WorksafeBC Innovation at Work<\/a>&nbsp;grant to support the research, testing, and production of Michael\u2019s concept for his chainsaw-safe work vest, which would protect arborists from severe injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">No Design Experience? No Problem<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many students in the Technical Apparel Design program have no background in design or fashion and their transformation during the three semesters is truly remarkable. The program equips you for a career filled with collaboration and innovation by developing not only your design skills, but also your strategic and critical thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tech Apparel Design grad Charlotte Browning came from a background of professional sports with no design experience.
