Amidst a global pandemic, those beyond Earth’s atmosphere watch on their home planet, as it is being dramatically affected and as it undergoes significant changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is fascinating to look at how astronauts are kept healthy in space, as there are few instances in which astronauts have gotten severely ill while in microgravity. Elaborate systems are in place, and individuals’ health is monitored closely in order to keep everyone healthy, since contracting a virus would put the whole crew in danger.
Looking into the holistic system, and taking inspiration from closed systems in space and underwater, I will be identifying areas of opportunity that may be able to be applied to a terrestrial scenario.
What happens in a space environment that is relevant to a terrestrial or earthly setting?
