ePortfolio Matters in ARTS

ePortfolio use in KPU’s Faculty of Arts is diverse as the programs within it.

One of Arts first forays into PebblePad was to use it as a database for faculty and student researcher profiles for KPU ArtsNet. Using PebblePad Pages, faculty and student researchers created profile pages to share their research interests which were searchable via the Moodle Glossary tool. ArtsNet members could then search and view other member’s profile pages to find matches and mentors for further research and scholarly activities.

ePortfolio Champion (Spring 2024) Dr. Constanza Rojas-Primus used her time release to develop two PebblePad workbooks. The first is a student-facing work which she defines as an “e-Portfolio experience of intercultural development and growth. In this way, students not only may reflect about their ICP practice in the form of a journal, but [they can also] provide artifacts and other evidence of their journey. Similarly, students’ final presentation can be the final submission of their e-Portfolio via [PebblePad].” The second is faculty-facing resource workbook which transforms her “previous work with traditional portfolios into a [PebblePad] e-Portfolio template that can be used within LANC as a basis to integrate COIL opportunities for our students within our language courses.” Click on the screenshots below to view the workbooks.

Counselling Psychology (CNPS)

ePortfolio Champion, Dr. Sarah Hickinbottom, was granted two consecutive time releases to develop and refine eportfolio workbooks for her CNPS 3310 and 3320 courses. Dr. Hickinbottom was inspired by the potential of eportfolios as an authentic assessment as she was overwhelmed by student use of Chat GPT in her traditional assignments. In her own reflections, Dr. Hickinbottom stated “This project was successful beyond my wildest dreams. My fears were that the students would be afraid of the technology but they were not. They created beautiful pages that included things they were interested in and artifacts from their lives. Moreover, they were excited as they were able to connect the material to themselves in a new way.“

Educational Studies (EDUC)

Dr. Adrienne Boulton is using PebblePad workbooks in her EDUC 1100 and EDUC 3230 courses. Both of these workbooks highlight the scaffolding capabilities of PebblePad workbooks as well as the emphasis of process over product in eportfolio pedagogy. The first workbook scaffolds students through the writing process of a research paper; the second through a course-long project which supports students as they learn and iterate throughout the process.
