Piped Seam

Used primarily as a design feature with a contrasting colour used for the piping, or to highlight and help finish an edge or seam.

  1. Cut a piece of bias fabric 3cm wide (this amount may very depending on width of desired piping).
  2. Fold bias in half and press. Alternatively place a cord down the centre of the folded bias and
    baste cording in place.
  3. Sew the seam with the piping or corded piping sandwiched between the fabric with appropriate seam allowance.
  4. If connecting a seam with piping to other seams with piping, or looking at finishing off a seam with piping you may consider cutting away a little bit of the cording inside the piping to help reduce bulk.
