The Shredding and Extruding Process

Post-consumer plastics (PCP) need to go through various steps before they are able to be used again as recycled material. The image below shows a condensed version of the process beginning after the collection of scrap/waste PLA.

Here is an example of how a shredder works. The only thing being shredded in this project will be post-consumer plastic, which will be cleaned and dried before hand.

Here is a 3D printed shredder I printed for a tangible concept visual, which is made out of 100% PLA. I also really enjoy 3D printing things. Here is a link to user jtronics.de‘s file on MyMiniFactory where I downloaded the model.

My Two Sent.’s: I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to be able to use the machines provided for students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Ever since I can remember, I have been fascinated by machines and making things (especially 3D printing), and this project lets me do that.
